Categories of characteristics possible?

I searched the forum but did not find an answer to my question:

We have a characterictic - let's say "Char". The possible Values are A1, A2, B1 and B2.
Is it possible that they are displayed as "Char" with the subgroups "A" and "B". Under "A" you find A1 and A2 and under "B" B1 and B2? It should still be possible to select only one of the four values.

Yes you have to create two different characteristics, one with the values "none", "A1" and "A2" and the other one "none","B1" and "B2". Then assign them to the product.
By this way the selection of the characteristics will be separated and not required.

The problem is that then it is possible to select A1 and B1 at the same time. We don't want this. It should only be possible to select one of the 4 (A1, A2, B1 and B2).

Then the solution will probably be to create 2 characteristics, with 3 values : A1/A2/none and B1/B2/none
And set the quantity of the combination that you don't want to sell to 0.

No combination should be possible. It should only be possible to select A1 or A2 or B1 or B2 - so only exactly one out of the 4. This is not possible with your suggestion I think.
