Breadcrumbs now displaying subcategories

Hello,

I've a problem getting the breadcrumbs displaying correctly:
I created a new HikaShop Content Module with random products and placed it on the homepage. It works fine.
The main menu of my site contains a link "Categories" to a hikashop product category listing. In the configuration of the new Content Module I set the menu to the link that Link. So far so good. Now, when I go to "Categories" and select the a (sub)category and then a product, the breadcrumbs are displaying correctly, something like "Main > Categories > Subcategory1 > Productname". However when I select a product from the HikaShop Content Module on the main page, the subcategories are gone and the breadcrumbs look like this: "Main > Categories > Productname".

I tried to find the answer on my own and found this topic:

So I tried to switch the simplified breadcrumb off, but it didn't resolve the problem. Are there any other settings I can try to get it display correctly?

I tried to turn "simplified breadcrumbs" ON and OFF, it didn't make any difference. I also updated my HikaShop to version 2.3.1. Didn't help either. However your answer gave me a tip where to look for. I checked the canonical URLs of the products and categories and they were generated incorrectly. I wounder why I didn't notice it before. That was the reason I had two different URLs for the same product: one with "product list > subcategory > product" and another one with "product list > product" so the breadcrumbs displayed the wrong path. I removed these canonical URLs completely and it worked.
