-- HikaShop version -- : 2.2.3
-- Joomla version -- : 3.3.6
-- PHP version -- : 5.3
-- Browser(s) name and version -- : chrome and safari

I have been hours trying to figure out how to open a products listing from a category listing module link. I read all the documentation and I'm sorry to say I couldn't. For sure I'm doing wrong some steps. But I don't know which ones. A category listing module in the right sidebar of my website is presume to open a product listing under each category link, but the page that open is blank, no products. I have no subcategories, it is a simple site. I'll appreciate a lot if you tell me step by step what should I do. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi,

There is already such module configured by default in HikaShop.
Just enable the "categories on 1 level" module via the Joomla modules manager and you're ready to go. It's already preconfigured to work like that.

Alternatively, if you want to create your own instance of categories listing module (because you deleted the one already there for example), you can follow our tutorial on that:
www.hikashop.com/support/support/documen...ml#categories_module
And you can even look at the options of that "categories on 1 level" module on our demo website in order to do the same on your website.

Hi.

I didn't have any "categories on level 1" module but I created one with the exact parameters that show the tutorial and nothing new. The categories links don't open the products listing page. What I missed?

My new module has this config:
show title: Y
publish: Y
type: category
layout: list
column: 1
items: 6
random: No
ordering: ascending
subs: direct subelements
assoc. category: 2 product category
sync: No
menu: Categories listing

PARAMETERS FOR CATEGORIES:

ordering field: category_ordering
show: all direct subcategories
link on main........Y
show number products....N
only categories with products....Y

THE MENU ITEM FOR THIS MODULE is as following:

show description: Y
publish: y
type: Product
layout: Div
column: 3
items: 15
random: No
ordering: ascending
sub: direct subelements
assoc. category: 2 product category
assoc. module: (the module above)
use menu name: No
Parameters for products: ordering
link to product page........Y....etc..

Please, tell me what is wrong to show in a homepage position the categories listing module with links to products listings under each category.

Thank you for your patience and help,

Robert

Hi,

In your menu item for this module, you should actually have a "category" type of content and in the associated module, you shouldn't have the module above but a products listing module. That's why it doesn't work.
Please configure your modules/menus the same way as the ones for the "categories on 1 level" module of our demo website and it will work: demo.hikashop.com

Hi, Nicolas, I have similar problem, and I can not get it running.
I need show category list and products list in diferent pages (we have more than 100 diferents categories). In order to get this, I generate Joomla Menu option type Hikashop>>Category with url path "/catalog/subjects" associated to it, this menu option show correctly category list (call it A).
Also I generate Hikashop content module to show a product list and I associate it to another Joomla Menu option type Hikashop>>Product with URL path "/catalog/products-by-subject" (call it C).

Then, at Hikashop Display menu, select "content menu" associated to A and at "assoc. module:" option I asigned C module.

The problem is that whatever I do (I've tried multiple combinations) each category link, always have "/component/hikashop/category/id-subject" path and don't show any product. It looks like it is ignoring "assoc module" option.

What can I do?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Could you provide a link to the shop so that we can check on the issue and screenshots of the hikashop options page of your menu/module ?

Hi, after hours of extensive reading of topics (more than 150) I found a topic called "Product URL Canonical & Product doesn't exist" that turn on a light in my brain.

I looked at Configuration->Characteristics->SEF URL Options->Force Canonical URL (I have spanish versión and I don't know if translations are exact). And it had "Use canonical" (same problem with two "use canonical" options).

When I change this option to "No, generate URLs", I found it Works!!!
It would be great if you put a WARNING IN YOUR TUTORIAL about this problem. This could save many searching solution hours to users.

Thanks

Hi,

I have multiple issues with a categories listing menu I am trying to build on a website. Here is the url: www.iartunique.com/index.php/gallery

Under Gallery menu, I have created the listing products for each category and they are working fine.
On the left side, I am trying to create a list of categories but it doesn't work correctly. One of the main problems is that I am getting twice the submenus of Painting, Photography & Miscellaneus artwork. Becides that, here are the settings and the issues that I am experiencing on each case of type layout:

- Type of content --> Category
- Sub elements filter --> All sub elements
- Menu --> Gallery
- Type of layout -->
a) When I set it to Div and then click for example on Paintings which is under Painting category, I don't get any results and the breadcrumbs is correct, but when I click on the Paintings which is on the first level, the results are correct but I don't get the name of the category on the breadcrumbs.
b) When I set it to List, whichever of the above mentioned categories I press, I get the correct results but the breadcrumbs is not working.

Please, help me, it's the second day I spend on this. On another topic, Nicolas suggested to rebuild, so I rebuilt the menus and the hikashop categories, but nothing changed.

Thanks in advance,
Dora

Hi,

You have the submenus twice ? I'm sorry but I don't understand what you're talking about.

Can you please use screenshots to illustrate your issue and also provide screenshot of your menu/module configuration.
It will be easier to understand the issue and easier to help you on the configuration.

Hi Jerome,

You might not have noticed it, but I shared the page url above and the issue with the duplicated categories is shown clearly. I have attached a screenshot of the front end, on which the marked areas are not supposed to be there. I also attach the screenshot of the module configuration.

Thanks!

Hi,

That's normal that you get this display.
You've set the "sub element filter" setting to "all sub elements" in your module so you get all the categories and their sub categories as the first level of the elements being displayed in the module.
And you also get them as sub level elements since you've activated the "show sub categories" setting.
Set the "sub element filter" setting to "direct sub elements" and it should be what you want.

Thank you Nicolas for your response. As described above, I have a compination of issues... Now that I have set the "Sub element filter" to "direct sub elements" I don't get the complete paths on breadcrumbs.

a) When I set it to Div and then click for example on Paintings which is under Painting category, I don't get any results and the breadcrumbs is correct, but when I click on the Paintings which is on the first level, the results are correct but I don't get the name of the category on the breadcrumbs.
b) When I set it to List, whichever of the above mentioned categories I press, I get the correct results but the breadcrumbs is not working.

I'd prefer to keep the Div layout, cause a List adds the text "No subcategories" under single categories and the arrow click is useless at this point.

Could you help please?

Thanks!

Hi Nicolas,

I am not sure how this happened but now the module works fine. For another reason, I deleted the gallery content menu and one of it's subcategories and recreated them. Later, when I set again the menu Gallery to this sidebar module, it worked.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Please check your "simplified breadcrumb" setting :

As described above, there is a case where I get the correct breadcrumbs, so I don't think that this is causing the issue, I have already set the "simplified breadcrumb" to "No". Please, read carefully the different issues I have in each case:

a) When I set the layout of the module to Div and then click on a subcategory, for example on Paintings which is under Painting category, I don't get any results and the breadcrumbs is correct, but when I click on the Paintings which is on the first level, the results are correct but I don't get the name of the category on the breadcrumbs.
b) When I set the layout to List, whichever of the above mentioned categories I press, I get the correct results but the breadcrumbs is not working.

Hi,

The layout of the listing has nothing to do with the links that are used on the listing.
The links will be the same.
The fact that you have two links come from the "force canonical URL on listing" setting.
In the category, you have the URL: /index.php/gallery/product/listing/39-paintings
So if you activate that setting, you'll get that URL for that category (coming from the canonical URL) for all the listings where you have the link:
www.iartunique.com/index.php/gallery/pro...listing/39-paintings
And if you turn off that setting, you'll get the dynamically generated URL (based on the other SEF settings and the settings of the module).

Your issues with your links is that you're using a product listing menu item in the "menu" setting of your categories listing modules, while you're supposed to use a category listing menu item.
Also, while you're configuring your menus and modules, it's best to turn off the "force canonical URL on listing" setting so that the URLs will be calculated dynamically and that you directly see the change on the frontend when you change something in the backend.
Then, once you're good with what you want, you can clear your canonical URLs and have the system regenerate them for you.
