Product Dimensions through Variants

My products have different sizes which are chosen through options fields..

I leave the main product as virtual goods and then create the size and weight for the options of the height:

example

size 2 = 22" x 8" x 12" weight 11 Lbs

size 4 = 22" x 12" x 12" weight 13 Lbs

Now for the other option "depth" it can be 12" (meaning no addition height or weight OR 16" meaning an additional 4" of depth added to the package as well as a couple pounds..

I added to the "depth" options characteristic a "shipable goods" and simply put 4" for the depth and 2 LBs for the weight...

So my question is, do those 4" and 2 Lbs get added to the product dimensions so that:

Size 2 when 16" depth options is chosen shows up as a final product dimension of

22" x 8" x 16" weight 13 Lbs

?

what if their is size and weight for 2 variants will it add the weight and extra inches of depth to the overall single product?

If the original product is a "virtual goods" and the shippable goods is acquired through characteristics/variants, is their a way to see the dimensions when the product and variants are chosen?

I know this is possible if the product itself has dimensions but what if the variants add the size and weight?
