Relating Content to Joomla Article, Rather

Hikashop has a Related Content Module, which, through HS Settings, corresponds with a HS product.

How can this be made, rather, to correspond to a Joomla Content Article or Category?

Right now, it seems that if the module is used in the template when a HS Product is not visible, there is simply no result. The module doesn't fire at all.
