Text area on product page

Hi,

I've been trying to figure out how to create an area for text writing within a specific product. I know you can create a drop down of options in characteristics and have them appear with a specific product, but I'm trying to make the drop down an area for the customer to write text.

Do you know how to do this?
Is it possible?

So, I figured out how to add a custom field of a text box to a specific product, but it will not allow the customer to type anything because it doesn't show the comment field. It only shows the name of the field.

I guess that you have created a custom field in the "product" table, but you have o create it in the "item" one.
