Fixed local currency and geolocation

Hi. I'm looking for a shopping cart that can allow us to set FIXED local currencies depending on which country the shopper is based in - this would NOT use currency exchange rates but simply have an agreed value in the local currency. For example, if a user was based in the UK they would see a price of £100 (in UK Pounds sterling). If they were in the US they would see a price of $160 and if in the EU would see a price of 140 Euro. For each product we would define the sell price in the local currencies that are supported.

Can you advise whether Hikashop in conjunction with Joomla would support this?

Thanks for your help

Hi,

Yes, you can do that with the geolocation system of the Business edition.
You can set several prices for each product, one per currency.
And with the geolocation system, you can force the currency of the customer when he arrives on your website based on his IP address:

Thanks for your previous answer on this (from some time ago.... :-)) We are now planning to buy the business edition but wanted to check one other thing on the same topic.

I understand from your reply that we can default the user to the currency based on their location - which is great. For any final purchase the currency however should be based on the delivery address rather than their identified location. So, for example, a user in Germany might originally see pricing for our products in Euros as that is where they are based, but at checkout if they decide they want delivery to Switzerland, we should then show and charge them in Swiss francs. Would that be possible?, i.e the delivery address overrides everything in terms of price. Basically we have a price set for each country and we want delivery to that country to incur that local price.

Also, is it possible to prevent the user from selecting a currency themselves. We always want the user to see the price for their local country, not to be able to browse and potentially select alternative prices / currencies.

Thanks for your help on this.

Hi,

1. There is no option for that. It would require either a small hack or a custom plugin to be added to force the currency when an address is used.

2. If you don't enable the currency switcher module, your customers won't be able to change the currency.

OK, thanks.

Do you happen to know whether there is a way to stop the delivery address being in a different country to the geolocator, i.e. force the geolocation country as the delivery address country?

That would also require some customization of the code.
