I have three starter packages in my store and the customer is to choose the products in that package (it is actually professional hair colours) in some cases customers are choosing up to 10 colours - I have set the variants, but can not figure out how the customer chooses and records that within the order.
Is there a way to do this, or if not then is there a way that a message box will allow them to type the choice for their order?
I look forward to hearing from you

Hi,

If you have set up variants, I guess that the characteristic values are the colors.
So when on the product page, the customer has a dropdown with the colors to select the variants.

Once a variant selected, he choose the quantity and click on add to cart.
Finally when the order is made, you can see in the product listing the desired colors.

So by default all the informations are displayed.
Please give us more details, screenshots about your issue if the informations given don't help.

OK
I have three starter packages that have a set price.
Each package includes a particular number of colours and developers.
So:
* Introductory package - includes 3 colours and 2 developers;
* Starter Pack 1 - includes 10 colours and 4 developers;
* Starter Pack 2 - includes 20 colours and 8 developers.

I have tried to test it as you say and when I choose a colour and then number to add to cart it increases the amont of the package from one and adds it to the number I have chosen for the colour, then a choice is to be made for the developers so I would just end u with multiple packages and not the individual colours and developers I wanted.

So unless I have set things up incorrectly what you suggest will not wok.
See here goo.gl/GROpcn ; you can login with my test account tester/tester.

Also if you do take a look take notice of the popup that opens once you click on the add to cart - it has options to continue shopping or go to checkout - but it does not stay there long enough for you to click on anything.
I can find where to extend the time it sits there.
If you could help with advice on that also would be great.

Many thanks for your help
Sandra

Hi,

To be honest ; I don't understand anything.
But I suppose that you might want the "product bundle" feature.

Hi,

So here is what I understand for all your messages and your website:
In each product, you want X dropdowns for the selection of the colours and Y dropdowns for the selection of the developers that are included in the current product being purchased.
In that case, I would recommend to:
1. create X option products (one per color selector) in an unpublished category with the color characteristic added in the option produc.
2. add the necessary number of option products as options of your main starter package product.
3. repeat the process for the developers selection.

You can read more about options here:

I am having quite a bit if difficulty trying to put this together.
This is how I would like it to work:
A customer chooses starter package No1.
Included in the price of that starter package is 10 colours.
The customer must choose 10 colours from a range of 55 colours. (Some may choose more than one of the same colour, as long as the total is 10)
I have been trying to set up the options as you describe and in instructions but it appears to only have the option of a yes/no, not an amount, that is of course if I am doing this right - which there is a very good chance that I am not as the instructions are quite confusing.
I you have any suggestions that might help me I would be very appreciative.

Hi,

If you only have yes/no values in the dropdown so that's because you have not added the characteristic to the option product.

To summarize:
1. Create a characteristic via the menu Product > Characteristics
Set 55 values, one per color.

2. Create 10 options products in an unpublished category.
For each option product in the product edition page click on "Add" under the "Characteristics" part.
Then select the previously created characteristic.

3. On the main product edition page, add the ten created option products.

This way on the product page in frontend you will see ten dropdowns with 55 colors in each dropdowns.

Hope this will help you.

Thank you that seems to look OK however when I place the order for the individual products and go to checkout I get a message stating that none of those products are available.( I haven't done an inventory as yet, but that seems to make no difference in other orders) Also when we get that sorted how do I find out what they have ordered?

I have another question I have an image for a category see here goo.gl/bEX7Dj , (the only image with lettering) where the lettering in the image is fuzzy. The image is the correct dimensions, and the resolution is 300dpi, with the file size being 215KB.
How do I make the images look crisp and professional.

Can you assist with both these problems.

I have spent the entire day today looking at the demo site front and back end and reading the documentation, trying different things that I think may make the difference only to test and find it is still the same.
I have set up as to the advice above and it all looks right but when I place a test order it tells me the products that I order in the options are not available.
I just cant figure out what is wrong. If you want to see for yourself. It just keeps telling me when go to checkout that all of the products are not available.
See here goo.gl/GROpcn ; you can login with my test account tester/tester.
Hope you can help me!
