Good Evening Hikashop Team,

You've been very helpful in answering my questions in the past and I have been extremely pleased with your assistance! So thank you for you help in advanced!

The question I have is in regards to displaying product characteristics on a product page.

Here's the scenario:

If I have a characteristic applied to a product, but it only has one associated value under that particular characteristic, it still displays that characteristic on the front-end as a drop-down (even though there is only one value). As shown in the attached image 'Current-Characteristic-Display.jpg'.

This might lead visitors to believe that other options are available and, when the click on the drop-down to find that there is only one value, they may be dismayed.

Further more, the product information housed in the characteristics section is good information that should always be displayed on the front-end of the product page.

Is there any way possible to have Hikashop detect instances where only 1 value is present under a characteristic and, instead of generating a drop-down like other characteristics, it displays that value as plain text? Such as shown in the attached image titled, 'preferred-characteristic display'.

We also have instances where we display 3 or 4 characteristics under a product page. Two of which are single drop-downs while the other two have multiple options available. We still want to display the single drop-downs though as they display important information that we would rather not display else where on the page.

Any suggestions you may have to offer are very much appreciated! I look forward to receiving your feedback.

Many Thanks,

Mike

Hi,

If you want to have one value characteristics in order to display additional information to the cutomers, then you don't want to use characteristics for that.
Instead, you should create a custom field of the table "product" via the menu Display>Custom fields so that you can select the value you want in each product and then have it displayed in that area of the product page.

Good Afternoon Nicolas,

Thank you so much for the quick reply.

Presently we utilize custom fields under the table 'product' to display marketable features in one area of the product page and technical specifications in another area of the same product page. Adding all of these custom fields in the backend generates a long list of text fields in the backend while editing a product. The solution works, it is just not super ideal.

And so, out of curiosity, is there a way to 'group' custom fields that I create under the 'product' table?

For example, custom fields A to D are marketable features, custom fields E to G are technical details, and custom fields F to J is information that should display next to the characteristics drop-down selectors.

Furthermore, if we are indeed able to group these custom fields, is it at all be possible to update the page layouts so that custom fields in the 'marketable features' group display on a certain area of the page, technical specifications in another area, etc., etc.?

I look forward to your response!

Thanks!!,

Mike

Hi,

There is no "grouping" system.
What you can do is to create custom fields of the type "custom text" in order to add separations between some of the fields.
Consequently there is no easy way to display the different groups in different areas of the page. It would require custom coding of the view files of the view "product" via the menu Display>Views by a developer.
