-- HikaShop version -- : 2.4.0
-- Joomla version -- : 3.4.1
-- Error-message(debug-mod must be tuned on) -- : None

A couple of things which should be easy ....

When creating products how can I set the default tax category? At the moment new products are created with tax category of none, I need these to be VAT but have to remember to set this for every product.

Similarly, how can I set the default dimension units? I need these to be in inches but they come up in metres so again I have to remember to change for every product.

Thanks,

Ian

Hello Ian,
A solution can be to create your products by importing them through a CSV file.
The best solution will probably be to :
- Manually create a product with your "default" parameters value
- Export it through a CSV file
- Edit that CSV file and add the products that you want to add.
- Import that CSV file back.

Hello Mohamed,

Thank you for the reply.

That's actually what I am doing in setting the shop up, but I'm thinking of my customer's staff who will be using the site and occasionally adding products through the back-end, the way Hikashop works it is an extremely tedious process with lots of potential for error. I hope this can be improved in future releases?

Regards,

Ian

Hi,

Next version of HikaShop will have the product edition page of the backend completely redesigned to be easier to use and more powerful.

But anyway, if you want something even simpler for your customers, HikaMarket Front edition should be the way to go:
- You can have your merchants only use the frontend interface and only allow the fields that you want so that you can display them a trimmed down version which will avoid them doing wrong things.
- It has a product template system to preset/force data to the products.
I see that you already purchased it, so I'm wondering why you're not using it since it seems to already be the solution you're looking for ?
You can also create mass actions to force values to some fields if necessary.

But anyway, there are already solutions to your questions from your first message:
- HikaShop already selects by default the "Default tax category" in the "product tax category" setting. It will only select "none" if you disabled/removed the "Default tax category" so add it back and use it for your products/tax rules and voilà.
- The default value of the dimensions and weight unit selection dropdowns come from the first value of the "dimension units" and "weight units" settings of the HikaShop configuration. Simply change their order, or even remove the ones you don't need and you'll be good to go.

Hi Nicolas,

The redesign sounds promising, I look forward to it!

Yes I did buy Hikamarket Front end as my initial thought was to give my customer front-end access to shop administration, but with the ACL management in Joomla now I have given them back-end access as I can give them a unified console to manage the shop and other features such as articles and gallery. I may revisit Hikamarket as it sounds good but don't have the time to evavluate it at the moment.

I have used mass actions myself and it's a powerful feature but not something I'd let a sales clerk loose on!

I did delete the default tax category, or I may have renamed it, I have named my VAT category to default and deleted any other tax categories ( I had your electronics goods category installed) and it now appears as default for new products, however it would still be more intuitive if there was a "use as default" check box.

I have done what you suggest with the dimensions and that's solved it, but again could be more intuitive.

I have to say I have mixed feelings about Hikashop. I wouldn't describe myself as a novice as I have been using Joomla and other carts for nearly 10 years. Hikashop is incredibly powerful and flexible but I also find it quite frustrating and cumbersome to use in many respects. It is only your excellent support that has prevented me from giving up with it.

Best Regards,

Ian
