how can i add modules to the category page without the module showing up on the product page?

The one tool that works wonder and allows you full control of displaying modules on specific page types or not is NoNumber's "Advanced Module Manager" . It will have to be the Pro version, though, because only this has a section dedicated to HikaShop page types, among many other sophisticated features.

I second that recommendation! While you can do a lot of things with native HikaShop module functionality, adding NoNumber Advanced Module Manager Pro will give you maximum flexibility.
