Hi there, I'm having an issue uploading image URLs through the CSV.

I have attached a screen shot of the column label i am using (images) as well as the format for the URL of the picture I would like to upload.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

The HikaShop import does not handle the URL as images. You can specify an absolute path, a relative path but not an URL.
It means that you have to upload the images directly in your server if you want the import to use them.

I can create a feature request in order to handle that ; but I can't give you any guarantee.
The import might handle a lot of data in a short time, if the import need to download images from the internet ; it might run out of time and failed. That's why we try to exclude time consuming tasks during the import.

Thanks for the reply!

If you could attempt that it would be great, our website will be featuring goods sold through other partners so it is vital that we don't have to keep all of the images on hard disk.

Your help is greatly appreciated, I've been trying to figure this out for a couple days now.

Thank you

Hi,

There are two things here:
1. Jerome is wrong and the import system in HikaShop do handle URLs. The issue is that you didn't put the http:// at the beginning of the URLs so it doesn't work.

2. As Jerome said, having URLs for your images in your CSV, makes the CSV import process a lot slower as it has to download each image onto your server in order for HikaShop to be able to use them.
That also means that you will have to keep all the images on the hard disk of your server as it is necessary for HikaShop to be able to generate thumbnails out of them.
That's why Jerome recommended to use relative paths and upload the images yourself to the upload folder. It the end the result is the same, but the import will be much more faster where otherwise, you'll probably get an error during the import process as the process will hit the processing time limitation parameter of your web server.

I suppose I should be more clear;
Our marketplace will feature hundreds of thousands of products sold by various manufacturers (similar to an eBay system) however, as our clients sometimes want to upload thousands of products at once, we are using CSVs to mass upload products. But we don't want to have to store the images associated with those products locally, but rather link to images found on the web. Is there any way to do this or are we forced to have locally stored copies of all the images featured on our website?

Hi,

1/ My bad for the download of the images ; I read the import class too fast.

2/ HikaShop is not design to work with external images mostly because it generate thumbnails.
It could be possible to modify HikaShop in order to store some image URL and display them in the product pages ; but at this moment you will have some issues with the product listing and you should deactivate the thumbnail system.
You will also have issues with images in the emails, in the cart, during the checkout, etc.
So, that's something which could be possible but which I can't recommend like that due to the side effects.
