I want to create a hidden category (normal users will never see this) called 'Press' and in that category I want to put 3 versions of my eBook (nook, kindle, ipad).

I will set each version of the book at a specific price and then give out a unique coupon for each editor who wants to review my book.

When an editor requests a review copy of my book I will send them a link to the hidden category, they can then add their specific ebook version to their cart, enter the coupon and check out with no charge.

How do I set this up?

Thanks,

Hi,

That's not a problem. Just keep the category unpublished and it won't display on your normal listing of categories.

Then, create a new menu item of the type "hikashop products listing" via the Joomla menu manager in a hidden menu, like the "HikaShop default menus" and select that category as "associated category" of your menu item.

Then, just give the link to that menu item to your customers and they'll be able to access the listing of the products of that category.
To get the link, simply move the menu item to your main menu temporarily, get the link, and move it back in your hidden menu.

Nicolas,

Thanks for your help and for not sending me off to look at this post or that set of directions... those things are always a frustrating wild goose chase!

Your instructions went well right up to the menu part...

I created the category and left it unpublished. I added the products (had to go into configuration and add new file types .azw3 and .mobi for Kindle). I went to the menu and added a new menu of type HikaShop->Product Listing. Saved once and then accessed the options. So far so good.

Once in the options I scrolled down to: Associated category which said "2 product category" |Select|
I'm not sure what it means "2 product category" but I clicked on |Select| and then clicked on the newly created category and then there was no way for me to select or save that category.

What did I miss?

Thanks!

P.

Hi,

As you have an old version of HikaShop, the associated category selection is not really practical.
In the popup that you get, you need to click in the left explorer area on the parent category of the category you want to select, and then, you'll be able to select the category on the right listing.
If you click on the category on the left exporer area, it will display the sub categories of the category on the right listing and you won't be able to select anything, which is why you got confused.
The new interface for that in HikaShop 2.6.0 is completely different and you won't get such misunderstanding.

Hi Nicolas.

Thanks for being so helpful! This makes the process much less frustrating.

The category is now published, the products are listing but there is still one problem that prevents anyone from completing the checkout process: As per the attached file, the user is being asked to enter a shipping address.

It was charging a shipping fee so I set the minimum weight for the book as 1 pound. I tried setting the weight for the ebook as both 1oz and nothing and in either case the when I click 'next' to get to the payment option I get an error telling me I need to "please select your shipping information."

Also, you said 2.6.0 is the latest stable release and when I check for updates through hikashop dashboard/menu -> Documentation -> Update / About it says that 2.5.0 is the latest version.

Hi,

1. Shipping is required during the checkout if:
- you have set a weight in your products, or if you have the "force shipping regardless of weight" setting of the HikaShop configuration turned on
- and you have the "shipping" view added in the "checkout workflow" setting of the HikaShop configuration.

2. I never said that 2.6.0 was the latest stable version. 2.6.0 is the latest version. 2.5.0 is the latest stable version. We just released the 2.6.0 and thus the 2.6.0 update is not activated yet if you have the 2.5.0. So either you'll have to wait that we activate it, or you can download the install package via the menu My account>My subscriptions on our website and install it on yours in order to proceed to the update manually.

Nicolas,

This is when HikaShop turns into an extremely frustrating product to use so I REALLY appreciate.

1) I did have "force shipping regardless of weight" turned on. Turned it off. (see attached images) Things went south very quickly after that... south pole, nuclear bomb south.

Essentially you click through to payment with no screens or prompts, click on next from the payment step (3) and then you get a timeout and an error that says "too many redirects" (see attached). When I use the browser history to go back to the start of the checkout cart, there is a screen full of HikaShop messages (see attached).

Hi,

Please open new threads for new questions, unrelated to the current thread.

Your issue seems to come from your check workflow. You've removed the login view while still keeping the address view in your checkout workflow. It not something possible. Normally, you should get a warning about when you save the configuration and our documentation about that option explains it as well.
