Custom product fields

Hi, i want to create some custom fields in the product details page for all products. A customer can fill in it's needs here. For example a text that needs to be on the product. I created a field in Display > Custom fields. The leading text is visible on the product details page but i can't fill in the information because there is no field for that. I read on this forum that i need to select it as an 'item' instead of a 'product' but there isn't an option that's called 'item'. Since i updated to 2.6.0 i have a feeling i have less options in the 'display' menu. What should i do to make this work? Any suggestions?

Note that the Item custom fields are only available through the business edition of Hikashop.
