Hi,

We discover that there’s something going wrong with our URL’s, canonicals and Google. So I tried:
- Set up everything good, I’ve placed the settings on:

Here is the screenshot:

Here is the screenshot:

- Clean the canonicals with Mass Action and set all to 0
- Generate new canonical by clicking on the product page
- Cleaning all possible cache

But whatever I do I get this url:
“Website”/index.php?option=com_hikashop&view=product&layout=show&Itemid=3227

What I like is something like:
“Website”/”our product name”

According to the manual, it must be something like:

But even changing settings in above screenshot does not influence anything whatever I do I get:
“Website”/index.php?option=com_hikashop&view=product&layout=show&Itemid=3227

Please help.

Wella

Hi,

You've deactivated SEF URLs in the Joomla configuration. You need to activate it so that you can have SEF (nice) URLs and the canonical URLs generation system to work as they work together.

Hi Nicolas,

Thanks for your reply.

Points are the following:
1. We have large website (2,500+ products) so we need complex caching
2. Complex caching needs as far as we understand 1 unique canonical what must be equal to the URL what must be a search friendly URL
3. As you also advised in some topics about SEO switch off Joomla SEF URL
4. But we don’t have control over the canonicals, we get a horrible thing but not a search friendly one.

So the questions are:
Do we understand this correct?
How can we handle this.
And or is Hikashop coming with a better canonical handling

Hi,

Switching off SEF URLs is only recommended to debug issues with SEF related URLs, which is not your case.
It should normally be turned on on a live joomla website.
So you need to turn it on.
As long as you don't, you won't get canonical URLs nor SEF links.
