Appearnace of "Â" character in csv export

On CSV export, there is a strange character that the system generates when there is a '£' sign in the wording.

Example, in Hikashop, the product description is "Unlike other similar UV torches for less than £10, this device uses... "

The words on the exported CSV read "Unlike other similar UV torches for less than £10, this...". This has happened to all of my products (total about 380 products).

Why has this "Â" appeared, and how do I address the problem?
