Variant products and mini cart issue

Hi everyone

Can someone help or point me in the right direction please?

I've added quite a few products to the site I'm currently building and all was working well until I started to add variants.

I've got the mini cart module positioned top right and before I added variants to a product to test I could add a product to the cart and the mini cart would update the product quantities accordingly. However, now, if I add a variant product to the cart the mini cart doesn't update the product quantities unless there's already a product or default product in the cart (sometimes this doesn't work). It will update if I navigate away from the product with variants but when I navigate back the mini cart will show no products in the cart until I go back to a detailed product page.

Also if you add a product without variants or a default product to the cart I receive a message telling me that a product has been added to the cart but I don't receive the message for variant products.

I hope all this makes sense.

I've been trying to work this out since yesterday and I can't find any errors.

Can someone help please?

The Joomla page cache plugin is disabled and system configuration cache is also disabled.

I have made display views modifications but I removed then then tested again and the problem persists.

Thank you very much for taking a look for me, I do appreciate it.

I use shared hosting so sadly have no control over the web server.

It appears that the products do actually go into the cart it's the mini cart product quantity number that doesn't update or refresh correctly. I've tried it on other computers and it doesn't update correctly on those either so you think it's an issue with Varnish? I'll contact my host and see if there's anything they can do.

Update:

I've disabled Varnish and it's made no difference.

If you add a variant product first the mini cart product quantity doesn't update but if you then add the default product it does including the variant.

Further update:

selecting Yes to 'Use AJAX when possible for add to cart buttons' has solved the update above.
