Title keeps appending Variants on select? How to switch this off?

For some reason, you have a strange feature that changes the H1 product name on your product listing pages when you select a variant in the drop-down.

There seems to be no easy way to stop this happening, its breaking our design and a seemingly useless feature, why would a client need to see in big text at the top what they have selected already in the variant drop-downs? I have never seen a shopping system work in this way.

Please, can you advise how i can stop the Top title of the product appending the variant details selected on the product listing page without causing errors on the page.
