Hello
I have a little problem with the display of path of the product, just with 2 item menu
PLease follow this link and click on one product in the list:
dominio/aghi-principale/aghi-cartuccia
dominio/redskull.it/macchinette/bobina

You can see in the first case in the path I have:
Home / Aghi / Aghi cartuccia Crystal / Round Liner
in the second I have:
Home / Categories listing / Raffaello Titanio

All my links work as the first one so I prefer that format, but I dont understand why that happens for the second link.
What can I do??

Thanks
Frank

Hello
I solved deleting the path that I found in canonical url field in the products.
Why IN these product the field was filled??
I copied the path that i found in the canonical url in 5 products:
/hikashop-menu-for-categories-listing/product/raffaello-titanio
/hikashop-menu-for-categories-listing/product/prestige-ergal-titanio
/hikashop-menu-for-categories-listing/product/evo-rotary-black-opaca
/hikashop-menu-for-categories-listing/product/evo-rotary-red-opaca
/hikashop-menu-for-categories-listing/product/evo-rotary-purple-opaca

There is a reason for that??
Thanks
FRank

Hi,

Either you added it or you turned on the "force canonical URLs on listings" setting of the HikaShop configuration to generate the URLs automatically for you if missing.

SO so sorry nicolas but I dont understand what you mean...

HOwever yes I have that setting in my configuration and maybe I understand why It produced that kind of wrong url.
I noted that if I create a new product and i forget to specific the category or if I forget to delete the general category and I assign the specific category too, when I save the product it generate the url following the path of general category.
Do you think that was my problem?

Thanks

Hi,

The URL is not generated when you save the product, but when someone displays a listing on your website with that product on it.

But yes, if it is filled automatically, and later on you change something like its alias, or the menu item alias used in the canonical URL, then the canonical URL will be invalid and you'll have to have it regenerated or update it yourself.

I am little bit confused about how canonical url are created
You sayd "but when someone displays a listing on your website with that product on it.", I am not sure, but I think it generates different Url in base of how is displayd the product.
Example After I save the product if I reach for first time the product from list product it genarate a kind of url but If i reach the product from an item menu it generate an other kind of product.
That is normal??

Hi,

Yes. That's how the joomla URL system works.
The URL generated uses the alias of the current menu item to generate the URL. So if you are in different menu items, you'll get different URLs.
That's why having a canonical URL is important as it allows you to tell google which URL you want to have indexed for all the URLs of the products, and it also avoids google downgrading the rank of the URL because of "duplicate content".

Hi,

I can't say. It depends on how you configure your menu items, your HikaShop configuration etc.

category/category1/product is most likely NOT correct.
It's only correct if you have a menu item with the alias "category", and below it a second menu item with the alias "category1" which is a menu item of the type HikaShop products or categories listing, and that the alias of the product is "product" and that the "Product SEF name" setting of the HikaShop configuration is empty and that the "Remove products and categories id in URLs" setting is turned on in the HikaShop configuration.
In all other cases, that link will give you a 404 error.

A valid link is like that:
{menu-item-alias}/{sub-menu-item-alias}/{sub-sub-menu-item-alias}...etc.../{product-SEF-name}/{product-id-if-necessary-}{product-alias}

OK it is clear now, just a question about your possible path for canonica url:
{menu-item-alias}/{sub-menu-item-alias}/{sub-sub-menu-item-alias}...etc.../{product-SEF-name}/{product-id-if-necessary-}{product-alias}

About {product-SEF-name} that is what I find in option SEF url where there is Category Name and Product Name....correct??
My site is in italian language, do you think for optimization SEO is better translate Category and product or it doesn't meter??

Thanks
Frank

Hi,

It doesn't matter. I would personnally recommend to empty the product sef name so that the URLs of the products stay small.
