characteristics placeholder

The characteristics/variant system does not work that way because you have to configure in HikaShop the default variant for a product with characteristics.
The goal is to have a "default" product which will be automatically selected and displayed when you display the main product ; that way you already have the setting selected with also the different possibilities of "overrides" (variant images, description, price, etc).

But, in HikaShop you can override and customize every single views.
So you can override the view "show_block_characteristics" to change how the display is made.

Please note that if you want to override the display in dropdown, it will be a more complicated override because that part is still handle by a "type" (and the function displayFE).
