Hi,

Is it normal, that when you delete an image from a hikashop product page in the back-end, that the image is also deleted from the server?

Hope to hear from you.

Kind regards,
Lumiga

Hi,

Yes, it's normal. It avoids having space used for nothing. Note that if the image is used by another product, it won't be deleted.

Hi Nicolas,

Oké good to know but for my customers and myself it's a strange behavior.
I think most of the plugin's and components in Joomla are linking images to items or whatever.

Servers are big enough and when you like to order all your images like we do, we have to upload them again outside Hikashop because Hikashop puts all the images in one big folder and for a big shop that's hard to find a image.
Now every time the customer have to ask me to put bach the image on the server (when he do make a mistake), because he doesn't create the images (it's too difficult for them with resolution and proportions).

Maybe when you do an update to a new media manager you could think about this behavior again. ;)

But thanks anyway.

Hi,

Note that you can already upload your images in folders with the Joomla media manager.
Then, you will be able to select them when you edit your products and you will have them in different folders.

Yes we know. That's how we work in many cases.
But if a customer links a wrong image to a product and deletes it, we have to upload the image again.
Also in Joomla articles it doesn't work that way.

It's good to think along with the users to reduce the server space,
but in my opinion the disadvantages are greater than the benefits.
And the servers of today have enough space.

Just my two cents ;-)

Hi,

Thanks for your input. We can potentially add a hidden option to deactivate the deleting of the images.
The disadvantages of not deleting images can be quite big. Specially for people with not a lot of space on their hosting (and it happens a lot and that's why several people asked us to delete the images when the products were deleted).
In fact, just recently, someone asked us to even delete the images from the custom fields (which is not done yet as it is more complex to do).
So really, it depends on where you stand.

Hi,

A (hidden) option to deactivate the deleting of images would be very nice. :)

But indeed it depends on where you stand.

Has this option been added yet? Or a work around found? It causes a lot of work for shops that have high product turn over to have to keep adding back in the images.

Are you saying that if we put the images in a different folder in the Joomla Media Manager, that they will persist?

Hi,

As Lumiga said, you now have the option "Keep images after delete" in the HikaShop configuration if you don't want the files to be deleted when you delete a product.
