-- url of the page with the problem -- : =
-- HikaShop version -- : 4.2.2

Good morning Nicolas, good morning everybody

I have a set-up with multiple sites
The general content differs for each (regional) site but the shops come from one hikashop database.
I use Mighty Sites for ths (works well and the support is great)

Now....
What to do with the canonical url

If I use this ALL sites will have the same canonical url for a product

Is there a way have canonical urls for each site?

Dick

Hi,

In the canonical URL field, you can enter a relative URL.
So instead of

https://www.hikashop.com/support/forum.html
, you would enter just
/support/forum.html
.
So provided that the menu structure is the same for all the websites, the canonical URL will get the correct domain name automatically prepended to it and the canonical URL should be ok on all the websites.

I suppose the hikashop_product table could be duplicated per website in MightySites so that you would have one canonical URL per product per website, but then you would have to keep track of the product information across the websites and it would be problematic if you need stock management on them as the product_quantity column wouldn't be shared anymore.
So I would recommend to check with MightySites what could be done knowing all what I wrote above.

Thanks for the answer

The menu structure is NOT the same for all websites

The "master" has a different structure
All "slaves" are the same
And ALL Hikashop tables are shared from the master to the slaves

So... if the canocical urls are relative... and have formats like
/product-name
/menu-item-name
then I will be "safe"... I reckon

I fill the tables thru Filemaker and filemaker can generate the canonical urls

I have checked with Alterbrains but haven'r heard from them yet

Thanks

Hi,

Note also that starting from next version of HikaShop (to be released in January/February), you'll be able to enter a translation key in the canonical URL field and you'll then be able to have a different canonical URL per language by adding the translation key with it's translation in each language override file.
So if the language override file is not shared by the different slave websites (the file language/overrides/en-GB.override.ini for English), you would be able to have different canonical URLs for different slave websites.
