Publishing or Unpublishing selected categories

When maintaining categories, there are checkboxes adjacent to each category, though I don't seen any operations that can be performed on the selected categories.

It would be very helpful to allow selected categories to be Published or Unpublished, perhaps even sorted by name.
When maintaining hundreds of categories, editing each individually can be very time consuming.
