HikaShop 6.1.1 is the first release of HikaShop since the release of Joomla 6.0.0. It contains several patches for better compatibility with this new version of Joomla. Also, it brings webhooks and API automation to your webshop among other things.
In this post we'll highlight the main changes you’ll want to know about.
- Joomla 6
- Webhooks and API automation
- Google Pay and Apple Pay for PayPal Checkout
- Files Gallery
- Bundled products for variants
- User session keep alive
We've been working on the compatibility with Joomla 6 since May with the release of the 6.0.0 and the 6.1.0. Unfortunately, we were only basing ourselves on our limited tests with beta versions of Joomla 6. So, there are always edge cases that are missed in such situations.
Joomla 6.0.0 has been released for almost one month now, so we were able to conduct more tests and we were also able to get more feedback from early adopters, leading us to made several patches in the past few weeks for the compabitibility with Joomla 6.0.0.
HikaShop 6.1.1 contains them all. So, if you plan on upgrading your website to Joomla 6.0.0, we highly recommend you to update to the 6.1.1 before you do.
The lack of webhooks / external API in HikaShop has been a sore point for years. This meant that developers had to develop custom plugins for HikaShop to connect it to third party services.
With this new release, the mass action system of HikaShop allows for several new things:
- Creation of End points / webhooks: You can now easily setup endpoints for HikaShop by creating mass actions. This can be done in a few minutes to expose the data of HikaShop ( orders, products, users, categories, etc) and create / update / delete elements.
- Sending HTTP requests: Mass actions allows you to trigger actions following events you can define, using filters to refine conditions on the events. With this new release we introduce a new "Sending HTTP request" action to the mass action system. That way, you'll be able to configure mass actions to contact third party services' APIs upon events in your shop.
- A trigger "After an order has been paid" has been added to be able to execute mass actions after this crutial step in the order process.
Before the 6.1.1, offering API endpoints on your website or putting in place mechanisms to contact an API after an event would require a developer to work on a plugin for HikaShop. Now, an advanced user of HikaShop can set this up without coding knowledge and even a developer can do so much faster.
You can read more about these in our documentation page about mass actions.
We've worked or the integration of Google Pay and Apple Pay to the PayPal Checkout payment plugin. While these features are still in beta for now, it is a first step in easily offering these payment methods to your customers.
Up until now, you could already browse the images on your website to add them to your products, but for files, you could only upload them or provide their relative path in the upload folder.
With this new release of HikaShop, you can now use the new file gallery to select files already on your website.
The bundle system allows you to keep track of stock for products sold together as a bundle.
Up until now, you could only add bundled products to main products. But now, you can also add bundled products to variants of products. This will allow you to offer more complex products to your customers, without having to split them into different products.
HikaShop now integrates the user session keep alive mechanism of Joomla. What this means is that if you're editing something in your HikaShop backend, you won't be losing it when you try to save it if you didn't touch it for a while.
This is quite helpful, especially since Joomla's default user session timeout has been reduced drastically in the past years for security reasons.
While this is an invisible improvement, it will definitely save you time in the future, without you even realizing it. That's something which we can all get behind !
As usual, there is a lot more to discover about HikaShop 6.1.1, with bug fixes but also many smaller improvements and other features. You will find all these elements detailed in our change log.
Keep in touch folks.
