Amazon S3 for Digital Downloads
Several of my clients have asked me this recently, given the increased resolution of audio files over the MP3 format.
Example:
Song1.mp3 - 10.1MB; this is fine for a Joomla site download. These are 44.1kHz, 16-bit.
Song1.wav - 76.2MB; the bandwidth starts adding up. These are 48kHZ, 24-bit.
Song1.alac - 100MB+, this is the resolution for Apple Lossless. Ranges from 16-bit/44.1 kHz (CD quality) up to 24-bit/192 kHz (Hi-Res Lossless).
In the "Confirmed" emails and also in the Downloads area, it would be great to be able to show different download links:
- MP3
- WAV
- ALAC
The WAV or lossless (ALAC) would download from an Amazon S3 repository.
It is cheap and very fast.
There are a lot of self-published music artists out there now.
Streaming pays very little (0.001 cents per stream).
Selling songs and downloadable albums is still a viable income source.
Just an idea.
