Another new EU complication.
For your valued information - a new european union law is coming with Juni 2026, requesting a dedicated withdrawal button for orders in B2C online shops. Details:

From June 19, 2026, nearly all online shops and digital service providers selling to EU consumers must implement a withdrawal button in accordance with the new EU Directive 2023/2673 (amending the Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU).

Here are the main requirements and application details:

Who is affected?
• All businesses that conclude online contracts with EU consumers, granting them the statutory right of withdrawal (goods, digital products, services).
• Exemptions: Pure B2B shops, contracts without withdrawal right (e.g. bespoke goods), or purely offline contracts.

Placement & Design Requirements (from June 2026):
• The withdrawal button must be clearly visible, easily accessible, and unambiguously labeled (e.g. “Withdraw from contract here” or “Cancel my contract”).[3][2][1]
• Where to place it:
o Directly in the customer's personal area, wherever order or contract details are displayed.
o The button must be available throughout the withdrawal period (typically 14 days after delivery).
o Must be accessible and functional on mobile devices as well.
• The button is not required on every page, but must be available in the section where customers see or manage their orders or contracts (e.g. “My Account”, “Order History”, “Contracts”).[1]
• Clicking the button must open a confirmation page where the customer completes the withdrawal.
o After submission, the shop must immediately send a confirmation receipt (for example, via email).[2]
• The design and labeling of the button must not be misleading or hidden.

Legal consequences of non-compliance:
• Risks: Warnings, fines, extended withdrawal periods, and other sanctions if the button is missing or incorrectly implemented.[3]
• The requirement applies strictly for the duration of the statutory withdrawal period; after that, the button may be removed.

Technical Implementation Tips:
• Ensure accessibility (e.g. screen reader compatibility).
• For multiple orders/contracts, each must have its own withdrawal function.
• Both the button function and the confirmation email should be properly logged/documented for compliance reviews.

In summary:
From June 2026, every online shop serving EU consumers must add a clear, easily accessible withdrawal button to customer areas where contracts or orders are shown. The process must be as simple as making a purchase, and an immediate confirmation must be provided after use. Exact details and further guidance can be found in the new regulation.

Hi,

Thank you very much for sharing this information and for taking the time to summarize the upcoming EU requirements. We have reviewed Directive (EU) 2023/2673 and can confirm that your message is broadly accurate. The new rules will indeed require online shops that sell to EU consumers to provide a clearly visible and easily accessible withdrawal function (often described as a “withdrawal” or “cancel contract” button) starting from 19 June 2026, once Member States’ implementations come into force.

The directive specifies:
- A prominently displayed withdrawal option on the online interface during the statutory withdrawal period.
- Clear labelling (e.g. “Withdraw from contract here” or equivalent).
- A simple two-step process including a confirmation action and an acknowledgement sent to the consumer.
- Applicability only to B2C distance contracts where a right of withdrawal exists (so not B2B, bespoke goods, etc.).

One small nuance: the law does not prescribe a single fixed location such as “My Account” or “Order History”, but requires the feature to be easy to find and continuously accessible during the withdrawal period. Placing it in the customer’s order/contract area is considered best practice.

Following your feedback and our own assessment of the new directive, we will add support for this withdrawal function in a future release of HikaShop so that merchants can remain compliant well ahead of the June 2026 deadline.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention. If you have further details or implementation preferences, feel free to share them as user input is always appreciated and important.

Maybe just a note that many stores use guest checkout. So the button should be reasonably accessible for them too.
Thanks for the great support.
