Product View. How to remove IMG category (useless) or replace it with a text??

I've already added PATH in bradcrumb position. So I ask if is it possibile remove image category when I am in a product view?
If I need the category view, the best solution would be create a left modul menu with category but not the CATEGORY IMG in the content area

I'll try to explain better:.

I dispay the main category e.g. Category "SHOES" and Category "SHIRT".
Once I enter in one of these categories, I display the products and at the top I have an img (very big) of the category. If it is impossible to remove the category img it is possible at least replace it with a category text ?
